Name principals from litigation firm recognized for record-setting cases
DALLAS – The three name principals from the Dallas-based law firm Caldwell Cassady & Curry have earned selection to the 2017 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for their work on cases that produced some of the largest verdicts in U.S. history.
This marks the second year Brad Caldwell has been included in the annual guide to the country’s top lawyers and the first year for Jason Cassady and Austin Curry to be listed.
The recognition in Best Lawyers follows a string of record-setting verdicts won by Caldwell Cassady & Curry. Earlier this year, the three name principals and other firm attorneys won a $625.6 million verdict against Apple Inc. after a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas found that Apple infringed patented technology owned by client VirnetX Holding Corp. The verdict is the third-largest jury award in the U.S. so far this year.
Last year, the firm’s name principals led a team of lawyers to help win a $533 million verdict against Apple in a separate Eastern District patent infringement trial. That verdict was ranked by VerdictSearch as the largest in Texas during 2015 and the third largest in the nation.
According to a report from the litigation analytics firm Lex Machina, the attorneys at Caldwell Cassady & Curry have won the largest patent damages awards among all U.S. law firms since 2000, including achieving an average of $7 million more per case victory than the second-ranked firm.
The Best Lawyers honors represent the most recent professional recognition for the attorneys at Caldwell Cassady & Curry. Earlier this summer, Mr. Caldwell was named one of only 50 lawyers in the country on The National Law Journal’s list of Intellectual Property Trailblazers, and he, along with Mr. Cassady and Mr. Curry all earned selection to D Magazine’s annual list of the Best Lawyers in Dallas.
