Multimillion-dollar patent infringement victories propel firm to top ranking
DALLAS – The Dallas intellectual property and business litigation law firm Caldwell Cassady & Curry is being recognized as the Texas Intellectual Property Litigation Department of the Year by the publishers of Texas Lawyer newspaper.
Caldwell Cassady & Curry earned the lofty praise following an undefeated year in the courtroom during 2016, which included three patent infringement victories against technology giant Apple Inc. and nearly $1 billion in jury verdicts for clients. The annual ranking of the top litigation departments in the state is based on nominations and extensive research by Texas Lawyer’s editors.
“We are honored to be named as the state’s top firm for intellectual property litigation, particularly given that Texas is home to so many excellent IP attorneys and firms,” says name principal Jason Cassady. “We work hard to win at trial, whether we’re protecting a client’s patented technology, representing a company co-founder in a partnership dispute, or any other type of business litigation.”
In addition, Caldwell Cassady & Curry recently was named the top firm in the nation for plaintiffs’ patent cases in the IAM Patent 1000 – The World’s Leading Patent Professionals. The same guide recognized Mr. Cassady and fellow name principals Brad Caldwell and Austin Curry as three of the Top 25 patent litigation attorneys in Texas.
Caldwell Cassady & Curry’s yearlong unbeaten streak included two trial wins against Apple on behalf of VirnetX Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Those trials ended with verdicts of $625.6 and $302.4 million in favor of VirnetX. The firm also won a $22.1 million verdict for Cellular Communications Equipment LLC in another Eastern District case after jurors found Apple liable for infringing a network technology patent.
Caldwell Cassady & Curry represents companies and individuals in high-stakes civil litigation, including patent infringement cases, fiduciary duty cases, class actions, and disputes involving company founders. The firm has tried and won some of the nation’s top verdicts against the largest companies in the world.
