Name principals Brad Caldwell, Jason Cassady and J. Austin Curry helped lead the firm to an undefeated year in the courtroom, including victories against technology giant Apple Inc. in three separate trials that totaled nearly $1 billion in jury awards for the firm’s clients.

In February of last year, Caldwell Cassady & Curry successfully represented VirnetX Inc. against Apple in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The jury’s $625.6 million verdict in favor of VirnetX was the largest Texas jury award in an intellectual property trial during 2016 and the sixth-largest in the nation overall.

That win was followed by another victory on behalf of Cellular Communications Equipment LLC in September, when a separate Eastern District jury awarded $22.1 million against Apple for infringing a network technology patent. That verdict was ranked No. 88 on the Top 100 Verdicts listing.

Less than three weeks later, Caldwell Cassady & Curry closed out the firm’s yearlong winning streak by helping VirnetX prevail against Apple once again. It was the first of two new trials that were ordered by the trial court following the firm’s February victory. Jurors in this case ordered Apple to pay VirnetX $302.4 million for infringing a network technology patent. It was the fourth-largest verdict in Texas last year and the ninth-largest in the U.S. The second new trial has yet to be scheduled.

Caldwell Cassady & Curry represents companies and individuals in high-stakes civil litigation, including patent infringement cases and disputes involving company founders. The firm has tried and won some of the nation’s top verdicts against the largest companies in the world.
