Brad Caldwell Named Among Best Lawyers in Dallas

Name principal recognized for wins in business litigation, patent infringement cases

DALLAS – Noted trial attorney Brad Caldwell of the Dallas-based intellectual property and business litigation law firm Caldwell Cassady & Curry is once again being recognized among the city’s top lawyers after compiling an undefeated record in the courtroom during 2016.

Mr. Caldwell earned his second consecutive selection to D Magazine’s annual listing of the Best Lawyers in Dallas based on nominations from other lawyers and an extensive review conducted by the publication’s researchers and editors.

His selection to the 2017 roster of Dallas’ top attorneys follows Mr. Caldwell’s successful representation of clients in three multimillion-dollar lawsuits last year against technology giant Apple Inc. The three cases were tried in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, and all three ended with top-ranked verdicts that helped Mr. Caldwell earn two national Litigator of the Week honors from The American Lawyer magazine.

He began the year working alongside fellow name principals Jason Cassady and J. Austin Curry to help Nevada-based VirnetX Inc. win a $625.6 million patent infringement verdict against Apple. The Eastern District jury’s award was the second-largest in the state and the sixth-largest in the nation last year.

Mr. Caldwell and fellow firm attorneys followed up that win with a $22 million verdict in favor of Texas-based Cellular Communications Equipment, LLC, after another jury in Tyler, Texas, found that Apple willfully infringed one of the company’s patents covering Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network technology.

In another victory for VirnetX only weeks later, Mr. Caldwell and the firm won a $302 million jury award against Apple, which was the fourth-largest verdict in Texas and the ninth-largest in the U.S. last year.
