Patent infringement, business litigation victories propel Dallas firm to elite listing
DALLAS – The Dallas-based intellectual property and business litigation law firm Caldwell Cassady & Curry has been recognized as one of the nation’s best for securing client recoveries.
The firm earned the second-highest spot on The National Law Journal’s recently published Top 50 Recoveries list, a nationwide ranking based on statistics compiled by VerdictSearch. Caldwell Cassady & Curry’s wins from July 2015 to July 2016 included multiple courtroom victories and favorable pre-trial settlements in patent infringement cases and high-stakes commercial disputes.
The winning streak included a $625.6 million patent infringement verdict for VirnetX Holding Corp. against technology giant Apple Inc. last February, which ranked as the largest intellectual property verdict in Texas and the sixth-largest overall in the nation during 2016.
In October, Caldwell Cassady & Curry won again before a separate Eastern District jury, which issued a $302 million verdict in favor of VirnetX after finding that Apple infringed patented technology covering secure mobile communications. The verdict ranked as the fourth-largest in Texas and the nation’s ninth-largest last year.
Less than three weeks before winning the second VirnetX trial, Caldwell Cassady & Curry also won a $22 million verdict for Cellular Communications Equipment, LLC, in another Eastern District trial against Apple for infringing a network technology patent.
Caldwell Cassady & Curry also helped an individual inventor resolve a long-running dispute with a group of business partners who had wrongly shut him out of a multibillion-dollar company he helped create. After the firm won a key summary judgment ruling in favor of the inventor and secured a trial setting, the parties reached a significant confidential agreement that resolved the litigation.
